Article, Port Macquarie News, 10th September 2012 - A Port Macquarie business has won a national award less than three years after entering the industry.
Michael Downey’s car cleaning business took out the F.I.R.S.T award at the annual Nanotek National Franchisee Conference held in Sydney late last week. Nanotek, a national mobile car cleaning franchise, presents a wide range of excellence awards at its conference.
Mr Downey has only been running his Nanotek franchise for 2 ½ years. But he has been nominated in the Greater Port Macquarie Business Awards each year. His first nomincation came after only six months of operation. “I am so passionate about the Nanotek technology I work with, that even my family in Brisbane bring their cars down to Port for me to service.”
Mr Downey also enjoys giving back to the community. He was involved with the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life in 2011, when he donated 10 percent of his profits for two months. Mr Downey also was involved in a local initiative in 2011 to raise funds for the Queensland flood victims.
“I love the freedom that my job offers and the opportunity to be my own boss,” he said. “Being able to work outdoors is amazing, because I work in such a beautiful part of the world. Even my health has improved, because I have gone from a desk-bound job to a job that allows me to be more physically active,” he said.
The F.I.R.S.T. Award recognizes franchisees who have gone above and beyond in representing the company’s values of freedom, integrity, responsibility, sustainability, and teamwork.
Mr Downer was recognised for his team approach, and the integrity with which he always operates his business, said Nanotek chief executive officer Jim Cornish. “…the F.I.R.S.T. Award specifically recognizes those franchisees who stand out in their application of our corporate values to their business,” Mr Cornish said.
Nanotek uses advanced liquid polymer nano-technology to clean cars up to a detailing standard. Originally founded in Australia in 2004, Nanotek now operates in more than 12 countries around the world.
